    Many thanks to both of you for the reply – I will measure up and manufacture some wooden pieces to go in the mast gate.

    Next daft question – should my mast be fitted with spreaders, or can I manage without them? I can see no evidence of them ever having been fitted.

    And another! Idon’t appear to have any way of tensioning the mast. I read somewhere that the jib halyard provides tensioning via either a double block system or a hihgfield tensioner, again is this a must?
