    Hi Mike and David,

Great to hear from you both. The reason why i have brought up this subject is as follows. The boat I have came with Dyform stays and I am sure that it was set up for 400lbs,however after getting the Loos gauge out after some time,I find myself measuring in the 450-460 range to my marks on the mast.Maybe I have dropped half a hole on the adjusting plates, somewhere along the way, but for me usually when I pull on the tension it goes on and then stops around the 400lb mark and that would be around my mark on the mast, to get more on you really have to pull hard.In the last day or two I have trolled various sites for info on this and the Snipe class and the Flying Fifteen class mention that there would be a different reading between the two wires.

Obviously my main issue is that I am unnecessarily putting excessive load on my boat.Your explanations sound compelling so I will go back to my boat with a clean sheet paying more attention to marking up and making notes.

    Best regards

    Duncan

Hi Mike,I agree that this line should have been a separate topic but only realised the format after clicking. Is there a way to repost or I can re write the thread as a new topic if need be.As for your reply ,I would wholeheartedly agree with your answer. It is feasible that problems could occur with the rules as they stand at the moment.I would also not like to see the progress of the boat stunted due to out of date rules.

While on the subject of the Rule Book I think it would be a good idea to upgrade it to reflect the present status of the new boats that are now with us e.g. Fittings(jib cuninghams etc).Weights and position of weights(7kg rule is now obsolete)Is it possible to make the hull as light as possible and just fill the boat up with lead?.Maybe the Sailcloth rule also has to be amended due to the word “woven”.I am sure there are other issues in the Rule Book that need to be addressed due to the ongoing modernisation of the fleet and the need to keep up with new trends and developments.
