Hi all, I have an early 70s GP and the plastic pipe that acts as a brake (?) for the centreboard has just fallen off. Its rather lost its squidge and acquired a permanent square profile so I think replacement is the best option. As its so square I can’t tell what the original diameter would have been but looks like around 30mm (inch and a quarter?) externally. Any top tips or alternative suggestions before I end up buying a metre of something that looks as though it might do? Various 32mm clear hose available online that looks as though it would do.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

      Mike

I have the impression that several of the major online chandlers sell as standard a complete centreboard brake replacement kit.

Try Trident, and Purple Marine, and Pinnel & Bax, for start

      Hi Oliver,

Thankyou for that – and apologies, sometimes I amaze myself in missing the obvious (ie a general internet search) – I think I was slightly put off track by the home-made appearance of the system. Yes they do sell them, and actually the description makes it clear that its basically 1″ internal diameter tube so I may just go down that route and make one, particularly if I can find a bit of suitable alloy or s/s strip in my shed – looks better than the two washers that were on the previous setup.

      Thanks again, Mike.
