Hi Guys,
New topic from me. After being blown onto the rocks at Torside Reservoir I’ve notices that the beading that runs along the seam on the bow has come away at he rivet!
What is the best way to repair it?
It dosn’t seem to have a leak.
Thanks

I would drill out the old rivet, tap the “beading”/trim back into place lightly, and put a new rivet in. You may need some sealant or filler to secure the hold left behind by the old rivet.

Hi Thanks for the quick response… Just what I thought but what sealant would you recommend?
Cheers

A general purpose silicone sealant would almost certainly do, but many knowledgeable sailing people argue that polysulphide sealants are better, and cost about the same.
Another possibility is a flexible sealant-adhesive, such as CT1 https://www.marinescene.co.uk/product/4920/c.t.1-underwater-marine-sealant, or the appropriate type of Sikaflex.
I have also recently been recommended HA6 sealant, which is a marine quality silicone sealant, but I have not yet had any occasion to give this a trial; https://bond-it.co.uk/premier-range/ha6-rtv-silicone/
Hope this helps,
Oliver

Thanks again guys.
I have another question about deck boards but I’ll start another thread for that.

Just stay away from pure silicone. Once it is on a surface it is nearly impossible to completely remove and will interfere with and future painting

Hi Guys,
Well, the section of metal rubbing strip on the bow has now come off and is broken into two pieces! I think it would be better to replace the whole thing but where on earth would I get a preformed piece from ?
Also, I’m curios to know how deep one can safely drill into the bow before putting a hole in the hull?
Many thanks again
Dave
