Barbados update, November 2015

containers1265A busy week recently for the team organising the 2016 GP14 World Championships … and very exciting, as the week started with three of us visiting the Geest Line docks in Portsmouth. Geest Line are a major sponsor of this event allowing us to hire the containers at half the cost. So finding out how the bananas reach us and more importantly how the 72 GP14s are going to Barbados proved to be a very interesting morning. I never knew that bananas can be put to sleep and be woken up at will! Pictures show one of the four container boats that cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean on a weekly basis. These boats bring the fruit across to us and on the return take other cargo, dry goods, meat, and boats!

The Racking and Packing Team also met to discuss the dates in February that are under discussion with Geest Line for packing our eight containers at our three packing venues, Wigan, Aldridge and Poole Yacht Club.

Geest will be delivering our containers and we have a four-hour slot to pack each one. No small feat, and it will take a huge amount of organisation and cooperation from everyone to achieve this and make it all happen.

REMEMBER: Be sure to get your entry in by 30 November. Details here.
