Hello,
I unthreaded the below-deck bungee which takes up the slack in the spinnaker downhaul. It involves a number of pulleys and now I’m not sure how to rethread it. I thought there were photos on the site but have not managed to find them. Could someone please advise me?

A difficult question to answer as there is no standard set up. With one of the GRP boats by Speed, SP or Winder find one in your local club dinghy park and copy what you find. Much the same for a wooden boat either Series 1 or 2 look at one or more other boats. Normally a shock cord running across the boat through an eye on each side stringer with a block tied to each end of the shock cord, the down haul is threaded through the blocks in turn, then through a block on the mast step, then to a cleat where ever you want in the boat.

Thanks Steve,
It is a Speed boat but sadly I’m the dinosaur club member with the only GP. The downhaul is threaded through a small bullet block “A” below the foredeck and ends in a bullet block “B” with control lines led back to the thwart. The slack is taken up by shockcord attached to block “A”, across to a turning block on the hull, and back, around a turning block near the shroud plate. I am wondering where to terminate it, the logical place seems to be through the eye carrying the first turning block but I was looking for confirmation.
Kind regards,
Norman

This reply, sent by email, failed to appear;
“I suspect that there is more than one way of doing it, and that it may be very boat-specific.
But in case it helps, I am currently away with A Capella, and will try to take some photos for you.”
However that has now been eclipsed by replies from others, and I confess that I forgot to take the photos.
I am now back home, and tied up for the next week, but if needed I can take some photos after that.

Thanks Oliver,
I’m proposing to experiment and see if terminating the shock cord at the front lacing eye provides a long enough pull. If not it will need some head-scratching. Will report back.

Hello Oliver,
No need for a picture, terminating with a knot at the lacing eye seems to give enough take-up. Thanks for the interest.
