Friday DAY 5
The last day started with a complete contrast in weather conditions, with a flat calm, not a breath of air. James Goodfellow and Harry our SI considered the options and decided on a short recap of the week in the classroom and hopefully the light airs forecast would materialise. For once the forecast was spot on and by 10.00 all were heading to rig the boats and get changed into sailing gear.
Due to gear failure we were one boat down, but 2 sailors accompanied James while Harry and Gill went to set an upwind downwind course close to the shore line out of the tide. The morning was all about tide and laylines. Very difficult with boats within touching distance of the windward mark and the being washed down tide only to have to repeat the process.
After a brief lunch stop the sailors were crossing the Straits to the newly set race marks for an afternoon of racing, with James stepping into various boats to give advice and help.
Back in by 4pm where quite a few parents had gathered to help with boat packing. A final debrief took place before being released.
The role of the Guest coach is crucial to these weeks and a huge thank you to them all for giving their precious time to the GP14 Class.
Harry our Senior Instructor from Plas plays a huge role in the success of the week, and to overseeing the evening on the climbing walls
To quote him “ Cheers for a cracking week, everyone did fantastically well especially considering the conditions we were given”
Good luck to all our sailors, keep up the Training and hopefully see you in the future.
Thanks to Craftinsure and Roblin UK for their generous sonsorship
Chris and I always feel immensely privileged to be part of this week, to see such improvement over the 5 days and to enjoy the fun that these young people create!
